My photography passion was born by my surfing career in the mid 1970's and my deep love and passion for both the ocean and the sport of surfing.
I served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war as an electronics fire control technician at the home of Top Gun at NAS Miramar in a Fighter Town squadron in San Diego, California. I repaired the missile guidance systems on board the F-4 Phantom jets. Upon my honorable discharge in Feb of 1977, I worked as a carpenter for a year before enrolling at San Diego State University. I had a triple major in Photography, Journalism and Graphic Communication.
My photography career began at Surfer magazine in 1978 when I received an internship from the magazine. I worked there until I graduated with my degree in December of 1980.
I turned professional in Jan 1981 and headed to the N. shore of Hawaii to shoot photos on a 7 mile stretch of the most famous surf breaks in the world at that time. It's still considered a mecca and proving ground for both pro surfers and pro surf photographers.
Over the past four decades my still photography work has found it's way onto the covers of Sports Illustrated, NFL Game Day, Surfer Magazine, Wakeboard Magazine, Windsurf Magazine ESPN Magazine and numerous other publications worldwide. My motion picture footage has been used by National Geographic, ABC, ESPN and a host of other feature film and commercial productions.
I produced a surfing documentary "Red Water" with Bruce Brown's son Dana Brown (Endless Summer Fame) which was aired on the Ocean Network on Oceanic Time Warner Cable. I co-partnered with a great friend of mine John Dulich, to produce a feature film short we shot on 35mm film titled 'Silence' starring John Dulich and Billy Day Dodge. Billy a Native American Indian, is known for Grizzly Adams and The Legend of The Dark Mountain and his role on Dr. Quinn Medicine woman. He was a member of the Ojibwa tribe.
My stock still photos, NFL still photo library and 35mm and 16 mm film library is represented by Getty Images in New York.
I live in Kapolei Hawaii on the west side of the island of Oahu with my all time best friend ever, my Australian Cooberdog, Rusty,
