I've spent four decades shooting the shore break at Waimea Bay on the N. Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. I love the color of this image and I wanted to bring it to life with a 3D texture and enhanced color. I feel in love with shooting empty waves sans the surfer.
I was obsessed with chasing waves attempting to get the biggest, prettiest and most powerful photographs of waves I could create. In the days before Surfline and all the surf and swell direction forecasts that now report arriving swells, locations and conditions world wide and I'd watch the satellite images printed in the newspaper and check the offshore buoys North of the island of Kauai to keep close tabs on swell direction and size in order to capture these images. The wind had to be offshore, the sky clear and the swell gigantic. Perfect days didn't happen all the time. I could however, count on a handful of days each winter if I was lucky enough to put myself into position to capture magic and nature turned on I'd be awarded images like this for all of my patience waiting for the perfect wave.
